Cards

Cards

This article explains how cards work in Campfire, and how to add them to your scenes.

Cards let you add text and images anywhere in a scene, right alongside your models. Because a card lives in the scene, where you place it carries meaning: place a card beside a model to give context without covering it, attach one to the model's surface to call out a specific part, or lay one flat on the floor as a label or directional marker. This makes cards a flexible way to supplement what the scene is showing. For example, a card can spell out the current step in a procedure while the 3D model demonstrates it visually. Common uses include step-by-step instructions, part labels and callouts, reference images, safety placards, and floor-level wayfinding or markers.

Availability and requirements

Cards can be added from a PC, Mac or iPad and viewed on both screens and headsets. Available to both Starter and Enterprise plans.

How it works

Cards are customizable objects you can add to any scene. They appear in the hierarchy and in the scene, and can be selected, positioned, resized, hidden, and shown like any other object.

Add a card

There are two ways to add a card:

  1. Click the card icon in the top bar
  2. Right-click (long press on iPad) anywhere in the scene and select Add Card

Once added, the card will appear in the scene and in the hierarchy.

Position a card

Select the card to reveal its gizmos, then drag to move, rotate, or scale it directly in the scene. To set an exact position, you can directly enter the coordinates in the Placement section of the inspector. You can also use Place on surface to click anywhere on a model or ground, and conveniently place the card on the selected surface.

Scaling a card in the scene resizes the whole card together — text, image, and background. To change only the card's shape and how its text wraps, use Width in the inspector instead.

A card can go anywhere in the scene, and where you put it is up to you. For example, you might:

  • Place a card beside a model — keeps related text or images in view without blocking the model itself
  • Place a card on the model's surface — ties the information directly to the part or area it describes
  • Lay a card flat on the floor — works as a ground label or directional cue, like an arrow pointing toward the next step or station

Placement and billboarding work together. If you want a card to be always readable, like a step panel or label, turn Billboard on so it faces you as you move. For a card whose orientation is the point, like an arrow on the floor, leave Billboard off so it stays put.

Edit a card

Select a card to add or edit text. Cards can contain text, an image, or both.

Text formatting

The inspector includes options for:

  • bold, italic, and underline
  • font size and color
  • bullet or numbered lists
  • alignment (left, center, right)

Image

Click the Image field in the inspector to add a photo or graphic. If the card contains both text and an image, use the dropdown next to the image to set whether it appears above (Top) or below (Bottom) the text. JPEG and PNG files are supported.

Width, background, and billboarding

  • Width — Sets how wide the card is. Cards auto-fit their content to the set width. Once you set a value, it stays fixed. 100 is the standard width; this is a relative value, not a real-world measurement. Enter a smaller number for a narrower card or a larger one for a wider card. The height adjusts automatically to fit the content:
    • Text wraps to the width you set, so a wider card is usually a shorter one and a narrower card is taller. Width doesn't change the size of the text itself; use the font size options for that.
    • Images stretch to the card's width, and the height adjusts to keep the image's proportions.

  • Background — Click the color swatch to choose a background color.
  • Billboard — When turned on, this keeps the card facing the viewer at all times.

Show, hide, copy, duplicate, delete

  • Show or hide — Click the eye icon next to the card in the hierarchy
  • Copy and paste — Use ctrl/⌘ + C / ctrl/⌘ + V, or right-click the card in the scene or hierarchy
  • Duplicate — Right-click (long press on iPad) the card in the scene or hierarchy and select Duplicate
  • Delete — Right-click (long press on iPad) the card in the scene or hierarchy and select Delete, or select the card and press Delete / Backspace
